General info

The course is available to the best secondary school players available for each instrument. Participants will be able to excel with the best brass band available to school pupils in New Zealand. Superb tutors will be available, and tuition covers not only band play, but longer term objectives for brass band playing. They also develop friendships at a national level that they will be able to carry with them into the rest of their lives.


Criteria
• Players must attend a NZ Secondary School
• Applicants should be a minimum of Grade 4 or equivalent (ABRSM, Trinity College, AMEB)
• All Brass instruments are accepted e.g. Trumpets, French Horns (preferably with an Eb crook), Tenor Trombones (who can read treble clef)
• Percussionists are encouraged to attend but ability to read music is essential


Application procedure:   closed until 2012


The next course will be in October, 2012.

Auditions Timeline

These are local, and involve playing to a video camera in the presence of an overseer appointed by the Course managers. The videos are evaluated and the best players for each instrument selected.

Instructions will be sent by letter, but use this website to check the timetable and ensure that you will not miss out.

Application Closing Date – Wednesday 20th July 2011

Form to be completed and sent to NSSBB, C/- PO Box 40-112, Upper Hutt complete with $20.00 bond. Cheques made payable to New Zealand Bands Ltd.

Audition Music. The requirements for this year’s auditions will be mailed together with any music to be used in the audition. The local audition moderator will contact each applicant and advise the date of the audition taping.

Auditions. The auditions will be supervised by a local moderator. These will occur from late July to early August. 

Attendance Fees required by 30th September to qualify for the rebate.
Fee = $250.00   (less rebate of $50.00 then $200.00)

Location
The course is being run near Nelson at the Teapot Valley Christian Camp, Brightwater.  You go into Brightwater off highway 6, then 2 k NW along the Waimea West road, then 2 k SW along the Teapot Valley Road to the corner. (For the GSP enabled, it is S 41.3762, E 173.0754.)
