Aims and Objectives of the National Youth Band

• To develop well-rounded people that we can be proud of as ambassadors for music and New Zealand.
• Continually seeking opportunities for our young people to develop their musical skills by having tuition from New Zealand’s best musicians in the brass band movement and also the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
• Work with outstanding soloists, conductors from New Zealand and overseas
• Top professional concert presentation promoting new repertoire especially New Zealand music and composers
• Team spirit and camaraderie
• As part of developing our youth for professional development we ensure that they have significant experiences and events placed in front of them

Annual Summer Course and Tour

Since 1998 the NYB has had annual summer courses in Wellington or Blenheim over five days, where band members rehearse and attend tuition classes and seminars.

A tour to a section of New Zealand is undertaken following this for another five days. The NYB has visited most major towns and performed in vineyards, town squares, school halls and major theatres from Invercargill to Auckland.
